Choosing the correct stick length is one of the most important decisions a field hockey player makes. A stick that is too long causes you to undercut the ball and risks fracturing the head on hard ground contact. A stick that is too short forces you to bend excessively, which can lead to long-term back problems.
The hip joint method
The most reliable method for finding the right length is the hip joint method:
Stand upright on a flat surface in your normal playing shoes
Hold the stick straight up alongside your leg
The top of the stick should align with your hip joint
This ensures the stick is proportionate to your specific body mechanics rather than a generic height estimate.
Our size range
Most retailers stock only the most common sizes (typically 36.5" or 37.5") because holding a full range is expensive for them. Because we manufacture every stick to order, we are not constrained by inventory.
We offer sticks from 24 inches up to 41.5 inches, in half-inch increments throughout. This means every player, from a young beginner to a tall adult, gets the length that actually matches their hip joint rather than the nearest available standard size.
Detailed sizing charts correlating player height to recommended stick length are available on every field hockey stick product page.
